Spirit Day 2012 by Star--Sprout Spirit Day 2012 by Star--Sprout
I have been so inspired by Spirit Day. I've had my share of bullying, and I still get bullied from time to time. However busy I was today, I needed to make something to...well, make my mark! I'm working on shading it right now, and I may animate it. Expect that by tomorrow.
And don't forget...show you care today! It's never too late to hug a friend or smile at an acquaintance.

Gotta hate bullying, but it's a lot better to reason than discriminate bullyiers

Holy crap, there is a Spirit Day!? Wow, I had no clue. :ashamed:

In terms of bullying, I've been one of the lucky ones. Considering how for most of my school years I was one of those weird loner kids who never said anything, I didn't get bulled that badly. I know things get much better the higher up in grades you go (at least, it has been for me).

I have no problem standing up to bullies, but nowadays there have been a few TEACHERS (yes, teachers!) that have been bullying my class and I. (Or is it me and my class?)

I'll make my mark by sharing the pain I've felt when being bullied so others will know how others feel and will do something about bullying.

So very true. Love+acceptance=a better world. Why can't everyone else see that?

Same. I've known people who have been teetering over the edge due to this very issue and I feel it is pertinent that we raise awareness. People just don't understand how hurtful their words can be to someone. In all honesty, how can humanity expect to move forward towards a greater world when we judge and harm each other like petulant children over decisions others make that don't even affect society in a negative light whatsoever. Without love, how can there be progress?

What a wonderful reply! I know, lately teachers have been the bullies in my school. How could someone be so immature as to think that their words and actions...won't hurt the receiver? They can never be un-said or un-done. They are our barriers for us...everyone...to cross at one point or another in our lives. We just have to face them, a test of loyalty and courage, and move on.

Exactly! Humanity has an ugly tendency to judge and fear what they do not understand. But as said in a song by Within Temptation "It's so easy to destroy and condemn the ones you do not understand. Do you ever wonder if it's justified?" This is why I try my best not to judge anyone. I'm not perfect. I still do it sometimes but I don't ever voice my negative judgments because all my life I have been judged because I am different, namely due to the fact that I'm mexican american (I've been told to go back to mexico too many times to count), the way I dress is unconventional and I rarely speak. But what most people don't understand is that just because someone is different from you doesn't make them a bad person. Many people are surprised to hear that myself and my friends raise money for invisible children ,we volenteer at old folks homes, we are environmental advocates, we love animals , we find we get along with children and old people easier than people our own age, and we loooove to read and write. So what that we may look weird or act unconventional. We aren't bad people and neither are the people who we celebrate on Spirit day. They are good people like all of us but since they are slightly different, the world so coldly shuns them and misses out on a great learning experience and a chance to grow as a species. Years ago, it used to be unfathomal for a black person and a white person to marry. Now it's a comonality. So who's to say fifty years from now, people will look back at us and say, wow, they made a big deal over people of the same gender getting married? Our ancestors were petty idiots! I'm sorry but I don't want history to look back on me as the antagonist. It's our natural and constitutional right to pursue happieness as long as it causes no harm to anyone else. Gay marriage doesn't harm anyone so why do we fuss, rant and rave over it. Let them get married and get on with your life. Sometimes I find my faith in humanity slipping but then I come across people like you who aren't like the rest of the species and actually are capable of understanding the other mans struggle. Then my faith lifts a bit and I feel there is hope for the human race yet. If we do not wish to be the problem, then we must be the solution. I feel as if these major social issues are the work of a higher power testing us to see if we will be able to rise above it all. Diversity is the greatest source of strength in our race and yet we squander it, opting to conform to a social norm set by our ancestors rather than blaze a new and probably better trail for all.

What is different today will be normal tomorrow. Humans prefer to stick to the darkness...they seek shelter from enlightenment. They like to stay where their comfort zone is and they are too afraid to discover something new. They deny their stubborn instincts and refuse to come out into the light. Perhaps if they stepped out into the light...they'd realize how much warmer and better the light is. For some, it comes naturally, like you and I, but for others, it takes their whole lives to learn if ever. Why I like Spirit Day...I can come together with others just like us, the shunned, yet the enlightened; the beaten, yet the strong.
